I have been getting these questions e-mailed to me. So, I decided to put it on paper for all my Mermaids. Hope you enjoy!
Do you like using frozen food?
-Frozen real foods yes, like proteins, meats, fish, chicken, veggies. Frozen pre-made dinners or deep-fried foods… No. Be careful when it comes to pre-made frozen dinners. They can be packed with fat, bad carbohydrates, sodium, calories, and artificial ingredients.
Are there any advantages?
Advantages of having frozen real foods, ensures freshness, saves time, and you can keep a back stock up to 8 months on certain products. Not to mention it allows portion control, less waste, and you save money.
Do you have preferences?
Frozen Veggies, chicken and salmon are two frozen things you will find in my freezer.
Especially, one of my favorite veggies is cauliflower rice and broccoli
Why?
Cauliflower rice is a staple to my daily eats. I personally use cauliflower as an alternative to potatoes and rice. It also saves me time preparing meals when I have a busy schedule or low fresh supplies at the supermarket.
What should people stock up during at this time?
Healthy foods to make a fun quick dinner. Proteins like fish (not fish sticks) chicken breast and beef, veggies, and fruits for a nice little dessert.
In general, should we stock up on frozen foods?
I think it safe to say, with our new normal of quarantine life, stocking our favorite items are getting harder to find. If you feel the need to stock up, sure, stock up, but no need to overdo it. Frozen foods have a life shelf up to 8 months if packaged correctly. Of-course it is smart to keep some back stock in your home for those surprise moments of life happenings to prepare a quick and healthy meal.
If so which items?
My favorite staples of frozen foods are proteins, veggies, ie spinach, broccoli, cauliflower rice, brussels sprouts, cabbage, and snow peas. Basically, all green and white veggies, also lean meats. Bags of cut peppers and onions is a great short-cut frozen veggie for those busy moments and you want to throw together a quick crock-pot soup.
Any recipes that you suggest?
I have so many quick and easy recipes. One of my favorites and very easy to make. Also, restaurant gourmet worthy is a breakfast dish, a cup of cauliflower rice, mixed with little spinach, topped piece of salmon and a sunny side up egg. It takes very little time to make, healthy, filling and most importantly delicious!
Just a reminder as times are different for now, we have so many healthy alternatives to finding fresh foods if frozen is not the road you want to take. Misfit box, Hello Fresh, The Butcher Box, etc is a great treat to get delivered to your home. This is a time where we can experiment with different veggies and receipts. It is fresh, it’s fun and it is a great family bonding experience.
But do not feel guilty if you decide to use the frozen foods aisle. Or blanch your own fresh veggies and fruits to add to your freezer stock.
Make the healthier choices when it comes frozen real foods, rather than frozen fake foods, and altered frozen dinners and snacks.
